Hello everybody,
My name is Adil Laarous and I am from Melbourne. I have been searching in this site for some presence but without success, and now I have found a sign of life :) and a board to write on...
I must admit, I have been so intimidated by the course at first impression, but now I am starting to get excited about the whole prospect of it. It is going to be a challenging task to meet the requirements, but that is the fun of it, no pain no gain :)
I am interested in everything to do with the story of life and human beings for the simple reason that they are very interesting and worth the study. I am doing a B.A in Philosophy and eager to learn as much as I can through conflicting, informative, challenging and constructive units. So far, this is my 10th one.
The subject I have chosen to explore for my final assessment is Language, and the minor one, I think will be Gender and I may see what else can be stimulating.
I hope we can all make the best out of this unit, and motivate each other towards a great outcome... Greetings to you all...
Adil Laarous

I am also very much looking forward to this unit but as yet have no idea about my majors and minors- it has taken me more days than i should confess to work out the website let alone get much further!
However, I am really looking forward to whats ahead and chatting with everyone.

Hi classmates,
Grant Lenaarts here,
Currently working in Singapore and decided to return to uni and do a degree in cognitive psyche,
my first unit back !
feels wierd to be back in essay land - hope this will increase my rigor and clarity in laying out claims arguments etc
love the topic - Im super interested in: power, morals, self-interest and how we choose
and most decidedly interested in values and purpose - why we choose as we do
I have practical aspirations for this learning beyond the pleasures of expanded vistas of mind , currently working on an expert system based on risk profiles and choice
So Hi to you all and I hope to learn and maybe get some great leads on the leading theorists and useful models in the field of choice and decision making
feel free to drop me any great ideas
Grant

Hello everyone,
My name is Sally-Anne and I am from rural Darwin. Im doing this unit externally even though I have some units internally. Im doing a bachelor of Environmental Science. This unit comes as an elective for my course. I think Contested Knowledges will be an eye opener to those many western beliefs already in place surrouding the environment and land management.

Hello All
My name is Geoff and I am doing this subject plus 2 others this semester. I am currently unemployed so I have more time to complete these subjects. I am studying the Community Development Degree with Murdoch.
Hi everyone:
My name is Jian Wang, I am from china. Now, I am living in the North Flinders international house where a good place to studying and working. I am working in the Casuarina McDonald’s. When I have time, I like reading in the uni library, or chat with my friends, and play basketball. Actually, I am very glad to know new friends, because study is hard, we need relax and entertainment with friends. My major is bachelors of Marketing.I have chosen four units this semester; although contested knowledge is my selective unit, but I’m very interested in it. I think contested knowledge is very useful to overseas students. I hope I can make a lot of friends in this class. I usually study in the library, if some friends want see me, just contact me!!
Regard
Jian Wang
Hi Everyone,
I'm Liz and I am also studying for a bachelor of Community Development. During my earlier units I have become really interested in the way a persons upbringing and 'view of the world' can affect the way they are able to interact with others. One reading in particular, a story of a diabetic aboriginal man whose health was significantly and adversely affected through a lack of cultural understanding, stirred something in me as an ex district nurse. I am very interested to learn about different 'knowings' and how to accommodate and integrate different knowledges in practical situations.
I look forward to chatting with you all and am excited about where we will have travelled by the end of the unit.

Great to see such an excited bunch of students so far.
Hope the units meets your expectations and challenges you in this very important area.
looking forward to you comments and responses on Langton's article.
Cheers

Hi everyone, my name is Angela and I live on the gold Coast. I spent last year as an internal student at Griffith Uni, where I started a Human Services Degree. One of the core subjects was Social Science, which I found extremely, challenging and very interesting, I loved it. From this point on I realised that community Development was the exact area I had a passion for and wanted to follow my career path into. Griffith Uni didn't offer this Degree or anything similar so here I am, with o.u.a. First year, first subject. I am really sorry it has taken me so long to enter the discussion room, a bit rusty at present, and not the best at working out these instruments of computer technology. Im 34, work part time, no kids, but an extremely energetic Staffy pup, who makes more mess than I ever thought possible.
Look forward to working with you all.
Regards
Angela

My name is Sara and I'm from Melbourne! I'm looking at doing Bachelor of Arts and am doing this subject and another through Open Uni as a bit of an appetiser for my Tertiary studies. =D
I've been pretty slow getting to the discussion board - just getting to grips with the website now! >_<
I guess it's time to go through and catch up on everyone's posts! =D

Hi everyone,
I'm a bit late here, I had some issues with working where I was supposed to be looking. I'm not to sure how these boards work, so I hope I'm doing it right.
I'm doing a BA Community development through Murdoch. I'm a full time mum to 4 kids, and this is my 6th unit.
I look forward to 'meeting' everyone else :)

Hi my name is Judy Newton and I am from a little seaside town on the south coast of NSW. This is my fifth unit towards a Bachelor of Community Development. I work part time at TAFE as an Auslan Interpreter and tutor with Deaf people. I am enjoying the readings immensely so far, though I know this subject will be a big challenge for me. I am interested in culture and languages and already I have noticed in the reading that some indigenous people may struggle with abstract thinking as their languages do not easily convey such concepts and this is something that I confront in using and interpreting Auslan (Australian Sign Language) for those who are not familiar with the term. As a result of this interesting similarity I have chosen Language as my major issue and probably Education as my minor issue as they are closely related to my fields of interest (and work).
Good luck everyone in your studies!
Hi All,
I`ve chosen land as my major assighnment. If you`ve any comments please feel free. Thanks.

Hi again everyone,
I have chosen fire for my major assignment.
I am looking forward to hearing what everyone else has selected.
Kylie :)
I have finally chosen Land as my study topic, after considering History and Gender as maybes.
HI Everyone,
I have chosen Gender as my final assignment topic. Looking forward to hearing what others have chosen.
Dionne
Hi Everyone
I have decided to go with Language as my major assignment topic. Do we still need a minor one? No one has mentioned theirs or are we supposed to choose once we know which ones others are doing? I guess there is no point adding to a topic unless someone is doing it. If I was choosing a minor it would history, but I'm happy to help out wherever needed.

Hi Everyone
My name is Michelle and I live in Alice Springs. I am a Warnman women of the Martu Nation in the Pilbara of WA. I am studying a Bachelor of Science. I work full time at the Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and I am finding this unit a challenge particularly as it is so different to studying science and not being on campus where I can yarn with other students in this course.
I have just noticed that I need to pick a topic for my assigment... A little slow LOL. So I guess I will do Medicine :)
Cheers
Michelle
Hi All,
Hope you are progressing well with your website.
I was wondering whether anyone has any tips for using the website template with a mac. I followed the instructions which were there, but I have safari and it doesn't seem to be letting me edit the template.
Also does anyone know the actual date the assessment is due. Thanks heaps
Liz Currie
